Melby's
History
In February of 1983, Willy's Jack and Jill in Larimore became Melby's Jack and Jill, when it was purchased by Bruce and Cindy Melby. When choosing a name for the store, Bruce's Jack and Jill was suggested, but quickly rejected, forOver the past years, the whole family has worked at the store; Until April 2009, John was an assistant manager and managed the meat department. When John married and moved to St. Cloud, MN, Allan, also an assistant manager, then assumed management of the meat department. Cindy handles the deli and bakery departments. Eric helped during his high school days and presently lives in Bismarck, ND working in wholesale sales. Bruce comes to work regularly, but we aren't sure what he does!
The business continued operating as Melby's Jack and Jill until 1996 when the the name changed to Melby's Food Pride.
Presently there are 15 employees at Melby's.
Boring Personal Histories
Bruce was born and raised in Roseau, Minnesota. He began working at the local Red Owl grocery store during his junior and senior years of high school. During his senior year of school, he was appointed manager of the produce department. He continued in this position for two years following his high school graduation, while also serving as an assistant to the store manager. At this time, he began on-the-job training in the meat department, where he continued until purchasing the store in Larimore.
Cindy grew up on a farm twenty miles south of Roseau. During her high school days, she worked at the local cafe and grocery store. She attended one year of college in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. She worked in the business office of the local hospital and later as a financial worker for the Roseau County Social Services.
